SHOULD WE GET RID OF THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE?

The electoral college was created by the wealthy founding fathers to maintain control over the masses and mainly to appease the Virginia contingent which was huge at the time. Virginia was a tremendous state back then. The logic showing that politicians would lobby smaller states to gain the smaller quantity of electoral votes has always been a myth. They still run more in the bigger states and that is mainly to earn the bigger states electoral votes. In fact, without the electoral college, there would be no reason to run so strong in the bigger states.

DO YOU KNOW WHO YOUR ELECTORS ARE AND HOW THEY GOT THERE? WILL YOU KNOW FOR THE NEXT ELECTION.

You don't even know all the presidential candidates. Why would you want strangers to handle the election for you? Of course, this round, the Republicans might argue that the college was a good thing. However, to them I might mention that it was THE COLLEGE GAVE US Billy Clinton IN BOTH 1992 AND 1996. Need I say more to you Republicans out there????

Some might add that Candidates would ignore the little states. Trust me, they do anyway. Actually they will ignore the will of the people everywhere anyway. Its corporate and special interest funding and lobbies that really score with the candidates and they transcend state borders.

As Professor John C. Berg states, "It's time to stop choosing our president by an archaic, confusing and undemocratic method. - The Costco Connection, Jan 2001
